Today is Remembrance Day, where we acknowledge the brave Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers, who risked their lives for this nation, many of whom were never recognised as citizens, or in the same light as their non-Indigenous counterparts, many of whom never returned to their country.

Tony Albert was the first Aboriginal official war artist and was also the first to be deployed during peace time in Australia.

He was deployed to the regional surveillance unit alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people, who were learning how to participate in the surveillance program for that part of the country, which relies on Indigenous skills to be successful.

Tony said his work within the force, is dedicated to ensuring First Nations people are at the forefront of Australian history.
