Socioeconomic backgrounds are suggested to be the cause of a gap and results show it has narrowed from 20.7 per cent in 2009 to 14.5 per cent in 2015.

The Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham says the improvement is welcomed but there still a huge task ahead.
