Tasmanian Invasion Day rallies will be happening in nipaluna/Hobart and limilinaturi/Devonport today with a focus on changing the date.
Street marches in the state have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however the rallies will go ahead with organisers working within health guidelines.
The rallies will include memorial and cultural ceremonies, beginning with a minute’s silence at noon.
Nala Mansell from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre is a speaker at the Hobart rally and says celebrating the day of invasion is offensive and racist.
Adam Thompson is a spokesperson for the Devonport rally and says it is important that non-Indigenous people get on board with the campaign.
