Yuin people on the south coast of New South Wales have established a school to train commercial divers.
The course, established by the Joonga Land and Water Aboriginal Corporation, began classes this week after years of planning.
Students have to pass an intense medical and also undergo deck hand and skippers courses.
Yuin man Wally Stewart spoke to NIRS at the 2022 AIATSIS Conference this week.
He says there’s a lot of work out there for graduates of the program.
