Torres Shire candidate Vonda Malone is set to become the regions first female mayor this week once final votes are counted.
She is expected to replace long time mayor Pedro Stephens, who has held the position for more than 20 years.
Ms Malone says she appreciates the hard work that Mr Stephens and his Councillors have put in over the years, and has been inspired by their commitment from a young age.
