Claims of racial prejudice among taxi drivers have once again surfaced with a critically acclaimed First Nations actress saying she was denied a ride by four different taxis in Sydney.
Ningali Lawford-Wolf, best known for Last Cab to Darwin, Bran Nue Dae and Rabbit Proof Fence, told BuzzFeed’s Allan Clarke she was left humiliated and angry when four taxis had refused to pick her up after rehearsals for an upcoming theatre production.
Ms Lawford-Wolf says was the only one waiting at the taxi rank when she left rehearsals around 10:30pm on Saturday night.
She says each taxi pulled away or ignored her when she approached and eventually got a taxi with help from a group of non-Indigenous people standing close by.
Racial prejudice has previously made headlines with other prominent First Nations people such as Jack Charles, Archie Roach and Gurrumul Yunupingu experiencing the same situation.
