Greens Senator Rachel Siewert has announced she intends to table a disallowance motion to block planned trials of the Health Welfare Card going ahead.

The Healthy Welfare Card is one of many recommendations within the Creating Parity report commissioned by the federal government and produced by mining magnate Andrew Forest.

The card will withhold up to 80 per cent of a welfare recipients income on a debit card which cannot be spent on alcohol or gambling services.

So far the South Australian town of Ceduna is the only one slated to begin on March 15 with regulation to enable the move currently in front of the senate.

Ms Siewert says the motion is her next step against a policy that hasn’t reaped any positive results.
