An investigation has been launched after off-duty police officer in regional Queensland was filmed head-butting an Indigenous teenager.
The altercation occurred outside a McDonald’s in Dalby, west of Brisbane, and shows the officer approaching a group of youths after one reportedly yelled out “you’re nothing without the badge.”
Following an exchange of words the officer, who appears to be intoxicated, head-butted the 14-year-old.
Speaking to Seven news, the youth says he feels he was targeted because of the colour of his skin.
QLD police commissioner Katarina Carroll described the actions as “completely inappropriate” and said the officer has been stood down pending an investigation by the Ethical Standards Command.
