The Minister for Indigenous Australians says the Government will not be rushed on an Indigenous voice to parliament.

At the Garma Festival over the weekend, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese put forward a proposed question to take to an Indigenous voice referendum as well as a possible form of words to add to the constitution.

The question proposed by Mr Albanese for a referendum is ‘do you support an alteration to the constitution that establishes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voice?’

While discussion around the Indigenous voice at Garma has been welcomed as a significant step forward, some continue to call for more detail before we head to a referendum.

Minister Linda Burney spoke to NIRS about a range of things including abolishing the Cashless Welfare Card, Closing the Gap and what the next steps are towards an Indigenous voice.
