A fifth dose for the COVID-19 vaccine is now available for Australian residents over the age of 18 as a recommendation from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) comes into effect.

Under the recommendation – which was accepted by Health Minister Mark Butler earlier this month, adults who haven’t contracted COVID or had a booster in the last 6 months are eligible to receive the dose.

ATAGI has recommended anyone over the age of 65 or who has complex health needs have a booster dose in the coming year.

So far over 64 million vaccine doses have been administered in the nation with just under 5.5 million people over the age of 16 having received 4 doses.

Currently 96.1% of people aged over 16 have received 2 doses.
