Leader of the federal Greens party Adam Bandt says whatever decisions around access to alcohol in the Northern Territory are being explored, guidance from First Nations communities is needed.

It comes after NT Chief Minister Natasha Fyles reiterated her government’s commitment to tackling youth crime which has seen a rapid rise over the past months.

She says all possibilities were on the table.

Greens Leader Adam Bandt told the ABC history shows a top down approach doesn’t work.

A report has now been released, recommending that NT government “urgently” impose alcohol restrictions in Central Australia.

It recommends keeping the laws in place until alcohol management plans are developed.
