The Federal Government on Saturday announced a funding boost for alcohol and drug treatment services helping Indigenous people.

More than 65 services will share in a $66 million funding package following extensive national consultations.

It is understood to be the first time in a decade that so many services in the sector have received such a boost.

According to a 2021-22 report, Indigenous people make up 18 per cent of those connecting to services.

Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney has been quoted by the National Indigenous Times as saying “these are vital services that provide critical, life-changing support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Australians, their families and communities.”
