As many around the globe take time today to celebrate women, the first Indigenous woman to stand in the House of Reps marks the day by highlighting the importance of our women in our communities.

The day is marked each year to celebrate the achievements of women and to calls for increased gender parity.

The Federal Member for Barton and Wiradjuri woman Linda Burney addressed an audience at a luncheon in Eurobodalla.

She told Koori Radio’s Lola Forrester that the day is about recognising the strengths and achievements of women, especially in our communities.
