An independent review of five Indigenous protected areas and ranger programs completed in February has been made public more than two months after it was completed.

The review found a government investment of $32.5m generated more than $96 million in social, economic, cultural and environmental outcomes.

The authors of the review concluded that the programs had begun “the development of an Indigenous land and sea based economy” empowering Indigenous landowners.

The review was made public two days after the budget, which saw no further commitment in funding for ranger programs.

CEO of Warddeken Land Management Shaun Ansell says it is a missed opportunity for the Coalition government to celebrate their policies.
