The Indigenous Literacy Foundation will next week celebrate its major event of the year, Indigenous Literacy Day, with a host of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and performers.
Like so many other events this year the foundation will celebrate virtually, with a live YouTube event featuring Ambassador Jessica Mauboy and long-time supporter Archie Roach.
Across the country on September 2, children and community members from the Tiwi Islands, Jilkminggan in the NT and Bidyadanga in Western Australia will be sharing their stories and highlighting the importance of language.
ILF Program Director Tina Raye says despite the challenges of COVID-19, its book supply program has been enormously popular, with more than 50,000 books provided to remote communities this year.
The foundation’s live event will kick off on Wednesday September 2 at 12:30pm on the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s YouTube channel.
