The University of Tasmania’s Murina program is providing First Nations people a safe space to prepare for university.

The Murina, program run out of the Riawunna Centre, allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a chance to share and strengthen their cultural knowledge while also developing practical academic study skills within a Tasmanian Aboriginal framework.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply for the course which is accepting students from 17 years of age with the oldest student currently being 72.

Associate Lecturer at the Riawunna Centre for Aboriginal Education, Ricky Maynard is a past student and says the program has a high success rate.
