Concerns have been raised over Woolworths’ proposed construction of a Dan Murphy’s bottle shop near three dry Aboriginal communities.

It comes in response to a letter from 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and health groups urging Reconciliation Australia to revoke its support from the supermarket giant.

Woolworths says it will not start construction on the alcohol megastore until April following an independent review into the company’s community consultation into the project.

But community leaders say their relentless pursuit of the project over the past 5 years does not align with the values supported by Reconciliation Australia.

Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory CEO John Paterson spoke to NITV and says they won’t sit on the sidelines and watch this happen.
