The 2021 Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Art Market kicked off on Friday and has already received a strong response from art buyers across the country.
In the first 24-hours alone, 628 objects sold for a total value of $285,946, with100% of the proceeds going directly to the 37 First Nations participating art centres and individual artists.
The AIATSIS event has grown to become the largest Indigenous art market in the region – showcasing a diverse range of paintings, textiles, sculptures and much more, with CEO Craig Ritchie praising the online format.
He said, ‘with this format, there will be new works continually added over the course of the art market, so make sure you come back to our website regularly to explore all the different artworks available’.
The market will conclude Sunday 5th December.
