The Queensland Government has announced $56 million in funding for new Police Citizens Youth Clubs facilities and early intervention programs across the state.
The funding is aimed at initiatives the Palaszczuk government says have proven to keep at risk children away from the criminal justice system.
$50 million will go towards new PCYC clubs as well as upgrades to existing facilities.
New PCYC facilities will be established in Rockhampton, Sandgate, Pimpama, Mareeba and Beaudesert while upgrading 20 existing clubs.
Another $6 million will also go to the PCYC to support a ‘back to basics’ initiative to deliver programs like after dark basketball and boxing.
