Ryhia Dank, a young Gudanji/Wakaja artist and graphic designer from the Northern Territory is the winner of the 2022 NAIDOC poster design competition.
Held annually, the National NAIDOC Week Poster competition dates back to the 90s, with the winner receiving a $10,000 cash prize and nationwide exposure as the centrepiece of the week-long celebrations.
Beating out more than 300 entries from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across the country, Ms Dank says she was inspired to enter after hearing this year’s NAIDOC Week theme – Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
“I knew straight away I wanted to do a graphic piece centred around our flags with text highlighting what we have been through and are still fighting for” said Ryhia.
“I feel that this piece being black and white allows us to focus on the details and messages in the artwork”
Ryhia, who now calls Melbourne home, is the creative director behind her own brand Nardurna and says her artwork, ‘Stronger’ incorporates and honours her family.
