Woolworths Limited has pledged 1600 jobs for First Nation’s people by 2019 as part of a partnership with the Australian government.
The commitment is the biggest jobs initiative to date under the Employment Parity Initiative, which aims to have 20,000 more Indigenous people employed by 2020.
Woolworths currently has an Indigenous employment rate of 1.1 per cent, which Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion says will be boosted to 2.1 per cent after the jobs are created.
Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci said “we are proud to be one of Australia’s biggest employers of Indigenous workers but I believe we can do more to support Indigenous Australians and open up more employment opportunities for them in our business.”
