Essendon speed merchant Anthony McDonald – Tipungwuti (pictured) was one of the real surprises of the 2016 AFL season.
The 23 year old Tiwi islander received his chance at the highest level due to the suspension of a number of Bombers stars and by the end of the season, had done enough to convince the club he was worthy of a new three year contract.
The opportunity at the Bombers came out of the blue and McDonald – Tipungwuti says he owes a lot to his mum that made sure he was fit enough for league footy when the Essendon call came.
