In NSW the state opposition leader has called for the Queen’s birthday public holiday to be replaced with a new day honouring Indigenous Australians.
Opposition leader Luke Foley said the June public holiday should instead ‘recognise and celebrate 40,000 years of Indigenous history’.
Foley did not go as far as two Melbourne councils have recently in calling for the shifting of Australia Day celebrations, saying he was “not in the business of rewriting history.”
