Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has outright rejected the idea of an Indigenous chamber in parliament.
As well as rejecting any “symbolic” recognition, last week’s Uluru statement called for an Indigenous voice to Parliament enshrined in the constitution.
The proposal has faced opposition and doubt from government.
Joyce says a push for “anything beyond our capacity to get the Australian people on board” is a “self-defeating proposition.”
