The Director of the Hunter TAFE’s Indigenous Learning Circle in New South Wales is calling on the State Government to continue funding the police training program iPROWD with the hopes to expand the initiative.
The Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery, or iPROWD, was established in 2010 and has reportedly seen more than 80 students take part in the course.
The program is a partnership made up of the NSW police force, Australian Government and TAFE NSW, with the aim of providing specialist training to help our mob get into the police force.
Lillian Gordon from Hunter TAFE says the program has made an impact breaking down barriers and its success shows cause for continued support.
She says First Nations police who can connect, addresses strained relationships between our mob and police, as well as setting an example for other police.
