In South Australia the independent commissioner appointed to oversee treaty discussions in the state says he will use his position to make sure the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community have their voices heard.
Emeritus professor, Kokatha and Mirning man Dr Roger Thomas will lead consultation between Indigenous South Australians and the State Government on a framework for treaty.
Last year the state government put aside $4.4 million to be spent over five years to support the treaty process.
Despite a warning from the Prime Minister that discussion of treaty or treaties could derail the movement for constitutional recognition, Dr Thomas says his job is to get the opinions and voices of South Australian First Nation’s people.
