The lawyer for an Indigenous woman at the centre of a controversial high-profile racial discrimination case says she has received ‘a violent threat’ over her role in the case.

Solicitor Susan Moriarty has been representing Cindy Prior, whose $250,000 lawsuit against three Queensland University of Technology students was dismissed by the federal court last month.

Ms Moriarty says she and her client are preparing a dossier of online abuse to send to police following threats over her handling of the lawsuit which included an email stating “We are coming to get you.”

Ms Moriarty says extensive coverage of the case by the newspaper The Australian has given a “platform” to those campaigning to remove section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.
