NSW Senator David Leyonhjelm has applied to register his Liberal Democratic Party to run in the West Australian election.

Senator Leyonhjelm says he believes there is interest in his party in the state, where he intends to campaign on deregulation.

He says retail trading hours and firearms laws are the most restrictive in the country and there is a lot of scope for privatisation of assets.

The Senator says he intends to run a candidate in every Upper House seat, but confirmed that the party doesn’t yet have enough candidates.

The Liberal Democratic Party won 10,771 first preference Senate votes in this year’s federal election.

One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson also confirmed that her party has applied to register in the WA election.
