A One Nation senator has used his maiden speech in Parliament to take aim at Indigenous media and to call for a stronger focus on the ‘Anglo-Australian’ identity of the 1950s.

New South Wales Senator Brian Burston accused the ABC, SBS and NITV of being biased against mainstream Australia, and ‘distorting Australian political culture.’

He went on to suggest de-funding the ABC and replacing it with a ‘patriotic broadcasting corporation.’

Senator Burston also used his speech to accuse the education system of ‘ignoring and dishonouring’ the national identity, and making children feel guilty of what he called ‘supposed historical injustices’ towards Indigenous people.
