An Indigenous artist says that after all that has been taken from First Nations people, the art of cloak making needs to be held on to.
Speaking on 98.9 FM’s Let’s Talk Program, Wathaurung woman Carol McGregor and Taungwurrung -Yorta Yorta woman Glennys Briggs spoke on their exhibition ‘The Art of Skins,’ which is currently showing at the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane.
The Art of Skins explores the importance of possum skin cloaks in First Nations Culture as well as the techniques used to create them.
Ms Briggs – who runs cloak making workshops in Victoria, says that she would like to see the art stay within the First Nations community.
