A respected Nurungga leader says in contrast to this week’s vote in the United Kingdom, which saw the country withdraw from the European Union, a referendum regarding Australia’s First Nations people won’t be decided by those who are directly affected by it.

Tauto Sansbury (pictured) says the vote which took place in Britain was about the people choosing whether to be part of a political system or independent of it.

He questions why First Nations people can’t have their own vote among themselves.
