A decrease in domestic violence and malicious damage rates in the north-west NSW town of Bourke is being credited to stronger police engagement with the First Nation’s community.
Superintendent Greg Moore says programs such as an alcohol-free ‘Dry July’ month held in January, and social events like discos, movie nights and family days all contributed to the decrease in violence.
Superintendent Moore says officers will be holding talks with the Indigenous community in Bourke, Enngonia and Brewarrina this week as part of a review of their engagement strategy.
