In South Australia the leaders of a First Nation’s community outside of Port Augusta are pushing to make the area a dry zone in an attempt to curb violence and anti-social behaviour.
Leaders in the community have proposed a by-law that would ban drinking in public areas.
While the small community of Davenport has a population of around 100, it is believed the problems have escalated after the nearby city of Port Augusta became a total dry zone 10 years ago.
Davenport Community Council chairperson Malcolm McKenzie says the community wants to live in a safe place where alcohol is consumed responsibly.
