Hockey Queensland’s Remote and Indigenous Hockey Program was a nominee in the community category of the 2015 Queensland Reconciliation Awards and is encouraging other community groups and businesses to nominate for the 2016 awards today.

The program started in 2001 and is designed to reduce Indigenous disadvantage and creates regional competitions between schools to help children gain recognition.

Hockey QLD CEO Louisa Begley says the program has expanded over the years to provide mentoring, ambassadors and education and training.

Nominations for the Reconciliation Awards will be open until March 21.
