Cairns MP Rob Pyne says the current number in parliament between the two major parties will be a unique opportunity to get some good outcomes for people in far north Queensland.

Mr Pyne announced his resignation from the Labor party this week saying he wanted to avoid being muzzled and controlled by party mechanics.

The move evens the power balance between the two major parties, leaving each with 42 seats in the House.

Mr Pyne told Bumma Bippera Media, he can’t properly represent the people of Cairns while in the Labor party.
