This year will be the first time the Vincent Lingiari Memorial Lecture will be given on the land rights veteran’s country.
Gurindji mob in the Northern Territory will be celebrating this weekend with the Freedom Day Festival kicking off today.
The three day festival in Kalkaringi hosts music, culture, sport, talks, tours and more.
The country that the festival takes place on is widely known for Wave Hill Walk Off led by Gurindji man Vincent Lingiari more than 50 years ago.
Vincent Lingiari Memorial Lecture which commemorates the Wave Hill walk-off will this year be given by Uluru Statement from the Heart advocate Thomas Mayor.
Mr Mayor is also the the National Indigenous Officer for the Maritime Union of Australia and says its an honor to be able to deliver the lecture.
