In February 2022, record-breaking floods ripped through communities in the New South Wales Northern Rivers, destroying homes, property, and taking lives. Twelve months later and residents in the region are still struggling to rebuild.

To commemorate the one-year anniversary, Lismore residents are gathering for three weeks of events to celebrate the resilience of their community and attempt to heal, while others have chosen to simply avoid all painful reminders of the disaster.

Koori Mail, the only Indigenous-owned and managed newspaper in Australia, has been a constant source of strength for local Bundjalung communities, providing food and supplies to everyone in need in the months following.

Naomi Moran, a proud Bundjalung woman and general manager of Koori Mail, says the newspaper have launched a T-shirt to mark the occasion that also acknowledges the healing role rain and water has in the community.
