The Minister for Indigenous Australians says referring to January 26 as ‘Invasion Day’ invokes hostility.
Along with Survival Day and Day of Mourning, Invasion Day is one of the terms used to refer to January 26 by many Indigenous people.
The ABC attempted to recognise this by deciding to refer to the day as Invasion Day on an article outlining events for the day.
The ABC backtracked and amended the story following backlash from the Government.
Despite using the term in the past, Minister Ken Wyatt says we should be building on positive relationships.
