The first Indigenous player to represent Australia in rugby league passed away over the weekend.
In 1960, Lionel Morgan was the first Indigenous player to have represented Australia in international rugby league, taking part in three tests and also represented Queensland for 12 games.
Morgan began his international career at a time when First Nations people were still unable to vote in Queensland.
In comments made to NRL.com earlier in the year, Morgan’s son Earl said his dad wasn’t even allowed to have a passport so it had to be arranged.
Lionel Moran passed away on Saturday at the age of 85.
The former winger will be remembered as a trailblazer and he leaves a lasting legacy.
