The Chief Executive of the Northern Land Council says the Blue Mud Bay decision must be implemented comprehensively.

The comment comes as Traditional Owners in Maningrida express concerns of a decline in marine life making it hard to feed families.

They have called for an end to commercial fishing in their waterways.

The Blue Mud Bay decision determined that Traditional Owners in Arnhem Land have exclusive ownership over 80 per cent of the Territory’s coast line, including the right to issue fishing permits.

The title is yet to be implemented despite being determined almost a decade ago.

Joe Morrison from the NLC says the negotiations are ongoing because the decision needs to be settled more comprehensively.
