The Aboriginal community of Nauiyu in the Northern Territory may soon be mostly powered off the sun as a new one mega-watt solar grid is built in Daly River.
The facility will be a hybrid solar and diesel generation plant which is expected to provide the community with solar power throughout the day while a diesel generator provides power at night and in emergencies.
The initiative derives from the Territory Government’s Solar Energy Transformation Program or SETuP, which aims to reduce the reliance on diesel.
Construction is set to commence soon.
