Explosive evidence given in the QLD Land Court in the Acland Coal case has revealed that most of the estimated $500 million in royalties from the mine expansion will not be seen by taxpayers.
Experts gave evidence that the QLD government and taxpayers would miss out on royalties, which will instead be payed to the company and a handful of property owners. The QLD government is likely to receive around $39 million.
Paul King of the Darling Downs Environment Centre says the situation is “unheard of.”
The QLD Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection Steven Miles has been contacted for comment.
