As Aurukun’s primary school reopens this week, the Queensland Government says Direct Instruction will work well alongside the Australian curriculum.
The QLD conducted a security and education review following unrest in the community prior to the end of last term.
The review issued 27 recommendations which the State Government says they intend to implement, including more Australian curriculum alongside the current controversial Direct Instruction model.
Deputy director-general of schooling with the state’s education department, Patrea Walton says both teaching models will be used.

The review has been criticised by some including Phyllis Yunkaporta of the Wik Women’s group who says they haven’t been consulted.
Ms Walton says they will work hard to consult.
