A Gamilaraay woman is aiming to bring a fresh perspective to the lives of modern First Nation’s women, with her theatre work BlaaQ Catt opening this week in Melbourne.

Maurial Spearim said her performance is a reflection on the ongoing trans generational trauma suffered by First Nation’s people, as well as the complexity of Indigenous life today.

Ms Spearim recently earned a Green Room Award Nomination for Best Female Performer in We Get It. She is a multi-disciplinary artist, and says she is currently working on releasing a single in the near future, as well as working on having some of her poetry published.

Ms Spearim said the inspiration for all of her work stems from First Nation’s people.

BlaaQ Catt is showing at the Next Wave Festival, Northcote Town Hall in Melbourne from May 17 – 22.
