Strategic Plan
The National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS) is the conduit for the receipt and distribution of radio programs, news and stories of arts, culture, language and heritage, produced by First Australian community radio stations and producers via our national satellite service and via the World Wide Web.
The NIRS charter represents “The Voice of Our People” for the purpose of instilling pride in the identity of First Nations Peoples and to inspire high-quality, informative, enlightening, and entertaining programs that install an appreciation and understanding of the rich diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people including our arts, cultures and heritage.
To support licensed First Australian broadcasters across Australia, NIRS distributes programs created by most major First Nations Community Broadcasters who operate in most metropolitan, regional, rural and remote locations across Australia. NIRS also streams this service to the world via our Apple and Android Apps.
VISION
Our vision is to facilitate the Voice of First Australian Broadcasters through sharing, informing, educating and communicating to all Australians through broadcasting to showcase the rich diversity and distinctiveness of First Nations arts, languages, issues, challenges, aspirations, cultures and heritages. To fulfill this vision, now and into the future, NIRS aims to be innovative as we adapt to a radically changing digital environment, so that we continue to provide opportunities to communicate through broadcast mediums, whilst respecting our modern values and ancient traditions that our communities have always honored.
VALUES
NIRS is committed to collaboration, program sharing, quality production and partnership between our diverse First Australian Community Broadcasters. We honor such values as we share our stories and seek innovative, high-quality ways to produce programs that educate and inform all Australians about the First Nations People. NIRS values honesty, respect, fair play, accountability, responsiveness and professionalism. NIRS seeks to facilitate these values in all that we do as a service provider, program producers, and facilitator of First Australian Broadcasters who seek an avenue to share their programs via the national satellite service across Australia and to the world.
