16 year old Wurundjeri woman Mikayla George (pictured) is working hard to become the first Indigenous Woman to represent Australia at the Winter Olympics.
Former gymnast George was headhunted by the Victorian Institute of Sports aerial skiing development after retiring from gymnastics after suffering a back injury.
An ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Alpine Sport Foundation, George told SBS shes been overwhelmed, not just by the degree of support she’s received, but also by the opportunity to become a role model for the next generation of First Nations athletes to venture onto the snow.
