The Seattle Seahawks have released Australian Jesse Williams (pictured) ahead of the looming free agency period.
The Torres Strait islander was signed by the Seahawks in 2013 after a celebrated career with the University of Alabama but due to injury and illness, hasn’t yet played an NFL game.
Williams was set to make his NFL debut in 2013 but missed the entire season after suffering a knee injury late in the pre season and then missed the following year after another bout of surgery.
After another excellent pre season in 2015, Williams was set to finally make his debut for the Seahawks but again missed the entire season after being diagnosed with kidney cancer and undergoing surgery to have the kidney removed.
Williams isn’t giving up on his career in the NFL though after receiving the all clear from doctors, and will hope to be picked up buy another franchise as an unrestricted free agent.
