The Wangkangurru people, around the south western border of Queensland, are looking forward to the new year release of the state's regional ecosystems map believing the tool will help identify at risk flora on country.

Wangkangurru elder, Uncle Donald Rowlands says the map will help his mob best manage country for generations to come.

Mr Rowlands says preserving and maintaining natural flora on country for food and medicine is so important.
He says it is every First Nations person’s responsibility to maintain connection to country.
