The Sydney Swans have confirmed that defender Michael  Talia has been stood down after being charged by police for drug possession after being arrested in a police surveilance operation in Double Bay on Sunday morning.

The 23 year old  is expected to face court on August 17 after being found in possession of a bag of cocaine.

Swans footy general manager Tom Harley says while the club will continue its support of the player, the club had no hesitation in standing him down, regardless of any future action in the case.
