When the Rio Olympics begin in August, Australia will be represented by a total of seven First Nations  athletes in a team of 410.

Veteran discus thrower Benn Harradine heads up the list and will compete at his third games after strong performances at London in 2012 and Beijing four years earlier.

He’ll be joined as a three time Olympian by basketballer Patrick Mills, who’ll be part of a strong Boomers side aiming to achieve its first Olympic medal in Rio.

The historic first Olympics for  Australias female soccer team the Matildas will see Lydia Williams and Kyah Simon make their Olympic debut as will hockey player Brooke Peris, the cousin of 1996 Olympic Hockey gold medallist Nova Peris.

Taliqua Clancy (pictured)  will become the first Indigenous woman to represent Australia  in Olympic beach volleyball and John Porch will be a part of Australias Rugby sevens squad competing in the first Olympic Sevens tournament.
